Byers Cemetery Washington County, PA

(141 - 142) Copied by Miss Helen Scott, Box 146, Claysville, Pa., and sent to the Historical Society Nov. 20, 1956. She states - "These are the old grave stones I saw near the Burnsville Road in East Finley Township. Caldwell's Atlas of Washington County show the grave yard to be on the D. Tilton farm. Later the land was owned by George Tilton and now the farm is run by George Litman. The graves are unfenced, but clean. There are about 12 stones, but at one time there seems to have been 2 or 3 dozen graves." In memory of Thomas Byers Willson who departed this life April the 10th 1826 age 5 months 10 days... In memory of Sarah Shannon who departed this life April __ A.D. 1810 aged 89 years... Double Stone In memory of Nancy Byers who departed this life Aug. 25, 1796 aged 7 months and 16 days In memory of Samuel Byers who departed this life Jan. 26, 1785 (could be 1786) aged 6 months and 17 (or 16) days Large flat double stone In memory of Thomas Byers Sen. Who departed this life the 30th day of August A.D. 1825 aged 67 years. An affectionate husband, a tender parent, a useful citizen, a sincere friend, and an exemplary Christian. For many years he filled with great respectability the office of ruling elder in the congregation of Three Ridges. From the Church militant below he has been translated to the Church triumphant in heaven to dwell forever with his ____ And his God. (Bible Verse) Margaret Byers relick of Thomas Byers departed this life August 4th A.D. 1829 in the 63 ?? year... In memory of Jane Byers who departed this life November A.D. 1801 aged 84 years (secular verse) Mary Byers born April 28, 1784; died ____? There were two others, but could not read them. These stones were all well made, professional stones and foot stones. There was only one field stone, hand cut, with the initials S.B. The head stone was gone.
